Lental Practice

"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:13)
READINGS:
1. Deuteronomy 26:4-10
2. Romans 10:8-13
3. Gospel of Luke 4:1-13

REFLECTION: The earliest meaning of the word Lent was springtime, the time of growth, life, newness. Purple, seen in the vestments of this season, show that it is a serious time of preparation, renewal. It is a time of opportunity to look at ourselves in relation to the Lord and to other people. Lent is a time when we re-learn, when we prepare with those to be newly baptized at the Easter Vigil.

PRAYER: God, our Savior, bring us back to you, and fill our minds with your wisdom. May we be enriched by our faithful observance of Lent and ever more aware of your presence with us. Amen.

FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:
Monday:
Prepare your home with reminders of Lent, perhaps some purple (tablecloth, runner, candles, etc.). Do something with plants to make a desert look (sand, rocks, cactus).
Tuesday:
Ask the family at dinner this evening if there is something you could do as a family to celebrate Lent. Usually your parish will have suggestions.
Wednesday:
Pray tonight with the family all or some of the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary.
Thursday:
Reflect on the one aspect of your life that you judge to be the most in need of the Lord's help and guidance.
Friday:
Reflect on how you and your family will fast this Lent. From what? How often?
Saturday:
Commit to some spiritual reading on a regular basis this Lent.

PRAYER:
Lord, teach us to pray from our hearts. Help us to know our emptiness and our need for prayer. Fill that emptiness with your living presence. Amen.
