CENTER FOR PROMOTION OF AFRICAN WOMEN
Centre for Feminine Promotion (CFP)

It is here that impoverished or "forgotten" girls and women
can re-build their lives
through education and skill training,
moral support and living assistance,
and lots of loving encouragement.

Want more info? Read below.

Want even *more* info? Email - We love questions.

Can't wait? Hop on a plane to Bobo and visit!

100% of this wonderful project is supported by donations .
100% of your donations apply to the educational needs and facilities of the students.

There are 170 girls and young women in the Centre for Feminine Promotion (CFP) in Bobo, Burkina Faso, Africa. The students speak and learn in French, as do all locals in this region of Africa. This is the first Change A Life (CAL) Program in French, so we hope to have more and more of our web page information available in both French and English in the near future.

Some of the students' classes are held in the evenings from 3:00 to 5:30pm. Here they learn skill training like sewing, embroidery, knitting, and other skills that can help them find employment.

Those of the girls who have not completed primary school come in the morning for the Cours d'Alphabetization . Here we have six classes starting from those who can not even hold a pencil, right up to those who can register for their first public exam. In the regular school it is called Cours de Primaria I, Cours de Primaria II, Cours Elementaire I, Cours Elementaire II, Cours Moyen I, Cours Moyen II, and then they can appear for their CEP exam.

In the regular schools the above curriculum and classes are for children from age 6 to age 11. Our girls, however, are all above the age of 12. They were unable to go to school because of poverty. Some tried but dropped out because of hardship. They are at our school to break the chain of poverty and become viable citizens of the community, but it is very difficult for them: some can not even afford a proper meal a day.

It is a challenge to teach our students because of their backgrounds and we need to use innovative and creative methods. We have six teachers who give the classes, and three more dynamic and creative ladies who offer their voluntary services to train our six teachers. One of these dynamic ladies is French, one is Portuguese and the other is Spanish. On this website you will find photos of how we run our classrooms.

We aspire also to find sponsors to help girls who have complete their studies and want to continue to secondary school by studying in the Night School.

The majority of our work is made possible by loving and hard-working volunteers. The government has provisions for helping their people but money is not distributed because of large-scale government corruption. Perhaps there is corruption here in Africa because there is no disparity between the rich and the poor as we have in India. Here almost everyone is poor and everyone shares what they have.

Now you can understand:   all of our work is financed by NGOs and personal donations like yours, and we are very successful at using your money to do great things for other people!

Your help, donations or assistance of any kind will be used wisely, greatly appreciated, and be a direct contribution to changing a life - don't just sit there, we need you!!

WHY IS THIS WEBSITE IN ENGLISH IF THE PROJECT STUDENTS SPEAK FRENCH?
The language-challenged person who volunteers this website doesn't know French, however is extremely fortunate to recently have the volunteer assistance of talented people who do know French. A million thanks to Monica Ledoux and Florence Mozzo for hours of time spent translating while dining on carrot sticks and fancy coffee!
