The day that we were eagerly looking forward to finally dawned on 21st of March, 2006 - the day of the inauguration of the new dormitory. The place was cleaned thoroughly and the new building beautifully decorated with marigold garlands and thermacol figures of children holding colourful balloons.
We had the ceremony in the interior courtyard of the new house where a stage was mounted and a back drop having the following slogan The program of the day was the inter-religious prayer service, blessing of the new building by the Bishop, lightening of the lamp and a short cultural program. At the end of the prayer service Mr. Premchand released balloons in the air symbolizing joy and happiness that must rein in the house. Sr. Matilda Alfonso welcomed the guests then the cultural program followed which consisted of songs and recitation of poems by children, a few dances and a Hindi skit on the rights of children. Bishop Percival and Mr. Premchand spoke briefly appreciating the program put up by the children, the good work of the Sisters which builds up many lives, and the new building that will offer better facilities for the girls.Sr. Margaret Fernandes thanked the guests and the innumerable benefactors who helped us to raise the building. We distributed small gifts to all who had worked in the construction of the house. Many of the girls who graduated from Regina Pacis, claiming better lives for themselves because of Regina Pacis, were also present. They remembered their time in the boarding and expressed their desire to come as a group and spend a day in the new building. They continue to be part of this place even though they have settled down and have their own families. Their changed lives are testimony to the success of Regina Pacis and the wonderful work of the Sisters!At the end of the program snacks and refreshments were served so that everyone could meet. There was a great excitement as old friends, graduates and acquaintances met and tried to catch up with old times. There was so much talk and one could sense a reluctance to leave this well loved place. |
