My Diary – January 2009

I love the Boabab tree. The Africans admire it. The leaves of this tree are used as food.

Since the majority of the people here are muslims, there are mosques everywhere

This is a field of ‘calabasses’. It is like a huge pumpkin. It is not eaten but cut into half and used as a vessel. It is used to store food..

The common means of transport is the donkey, the taxi which here is green in colour, and the over-loaded van.

12th January 2009 : We were invited to the Beatification Ceremony of the founder of the sisters Queen of Peace. The mass was very well prepared. Bishop Anselm was the main celebrant. Each of us was given a picture with a prayer interceding for his canonization, a rosary and a scarf.

On our way back home we brought some fruits & vegetables. Here the things are sold by the road-side just like in India. In these days, lettuce, tomatoes & carrots are cheap.

17th January 2009 : All the sisters in charge of centres of Promotion & of Hostels got together for half day recollection. I am the president. With the help of Christa, I prepared a document on the topic “Passion for Christ, Passion for Humanity.” We used this document for our reflection & personal prayer. We had shared prayer, & ended with the Eucharist & shared lunch. The place was conducive for prayer. The chapel was designed in African style & the compound was spacious & very quiet.

17th January 2009 (evening): The children whose fees are sponsored came today. We organized some games for them & distributed sweets. We will call them again on the 4th Saturday of next month.

Please pray that the Good Lord give me the grace and strength to persevere in my mission.
God Bless You.

Sr. Margaret Correa
