My Diary – March 2010

6th March 2010: The girls of the Centre have their formation every Friday. We explain ‘What is Lent & how can we make the best of it’. Twice a week during lunch the community listens to a tape on St Vicenta Maria. This is one of our sacrifices for lent. We have the stations of the cross from 9.15 to 9.45 p.m. Today we had it in the garden. Last Friday our hostel girls conducted it in the chapel of Sarafalao

23rd March.:We went to the Cathedral for the Chrism mass of the priests. It was a very solemn mass with the bishop as main celebrant. It started at 6.00 & ended at 21.30. The Chrism oil & the oil of the sick was blessed. The priests renewed the priestly promises they pronounced on the day of their ordination. This renewal of promises takes on a special mportance this year as we celebrate the year of the Priest to commomerate the 150th death anniversary of the Cure of Ars

24th March: Below are photos I took at random of scenes that caught my attention. The first is the door of a taxi in which I travelled. Almost all the taxis are like this. The second is a photo taken with a group of ragamuffins. They love photos. The third is a photo of a woman relaxing in front of her house & the fourth of a little girl playing, imitating her mother selling stuff at the market.

27th March: Below are photos I took at the homes I visited. The people are very welcoming & offer you water in a calabasse ( pumpkin shell) as soon as you enter. Then they recite their long list of salutations.

16th March 2010: We went for a concert prepared by the seminarians of the Major Seminary of Kumi at the Theatre Amitié along with the Monique, Léontine & Margueritte. The play was called ‘Persona Ingrata’ & was based on a very realistic story of injustice.

27th March: All the girls of the foyer have gone for their holidays & we are all to ourselves so the community went for an outing to Beregadougou. We took Pascaline & Leontine to their home. The family was most welcoming & gave us lunch & ever so many things to eat & drink & also to bring back with us. We also went to Bamfora, visited the home of Marthe & along with Angele, Flornce & two others from the neighbourhood we visited the Augustinian Monastery & CAF Centre de Accueil & Formation.

27th March: We attended a jewish Pascal Meal organised by the Carmelite fathers. The whole scene was enacted where the little boy asks his father questions about why this night is different from other nights & the elder explains how God saved the jews from the Egyptians. There was the unleavened bread & wine & bitter herbs & the pascal lamb.

Please pray that the Good Lord give me the grace and strength to persevere in my mission.
God Bless You.
